Does the cold weather get to you?
Not me. Granted, a crisp fall day is lovely as opposed to winter's negative temps, but I do like the winter and the snow. What I don't like is crazy winter windy days where it's say... -12, but when you add the wind chill, it's more like -25.
I lived in Regina from August to February when I was in my early 20's and HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS SEASONAL... THAT is some cold winter.
Normal temps when I lived there during December and January were -30something. That shit's just debilitating. Cars don't start without those block heaters running at ALL times. Most apt. complexes out there even have plug-in spots for their residents to plug into overnight.
Public Transit didn't work out any better either. The bus schedules seemed to be "whenever the hell the driver feels like it" or "not on days when you have to work, sucka" and honestly, even if the bus was on time, you were frostbitten from making your way to the bus stop. Even if it was only across the street.
Weirdly, my stint in Regina only lasted until very early February. It also seemed like the moment I purchased my tickets to return to the relative warmth of Montreal, Regina got a whole lot warmer. Enough to enjoy my last weekend there with some ice-fishing (yeah.. this double x was doing more drinking than ice-fishing.. lemme tell ya) wearing a flimsy and unzipped coat.
Even more weirdly, by the time I arrived back in Montreal... it was FREEZING COLD here. Not quite as cold as Decemeber/January in Regina had been... but awfully close.
Anyway...
I do like cooler weather. I'm a Fall Girl. And I like snow. The humid hot of our Summers drives me insane and makes me unable to breathe... trouble breathing sucks, y'all.
Today in Montreal it's still cold. It's -5, but feels like -10.
For me... that's good.
Ah.. maybe in my younger days. Still think slutty, just don't always act it.
ReplyDeleteHaha.
Montreal temp is, indeed, not too bad for February. I'm a Fall girl too: I just wait for it all year round.
ReplyDeleteFunny how weather experiences affect us and, maybe, make us remember stuff we usually would forget. Last year, in some neighboring province where I stayed, the winter was so warm... So warm.
Whatever it is, blame the weather, I say! ;)
I lived in Toronto for 10 yrs as well. It only actually really snowed for the last 2 yrs I was there. It got cold, but after Regina, I don't find anywhere else all that cold these days.
ReplyDeleteThen again. I'm always cold.
I live in Maine!! Its Freezing, but I still like it!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost choking on this post because it's gotten down to the -25 range.
ReplyDeleteBrrr.. thank god I only have a short walk to work.
