OTTAWA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The American teacher who was allowed by U.S. judges to spend three-year probation in Canada after being convicted of sexually assaulting a student was arrested by Canadian border guards on Thursday.
Um.. thanks for doing your job properly this time border guards.
Three cheers for gettin' around to it eventually.
Watson's lawyer, Oscar Smukler, has accused Canadian politicians of blowing the case out of proportion for political reasons, and said the media has made him out to be a high risk offender, when he is nothing of the sort.
"He was convicted of having kissed a young lady and touched her breast outside her clothing," Smukler said.
This moron of a lawyer does not seem to get the BIG PICTURE here. Canada is NOT a dumping ground for criminals... of ANY kind. The probability that Watson'd move on to another teenager may be low in their estimation and they may even be right, but why should Canada have to deal with him? Why should we accept the risk, even a slight one? Would the US if the situation was reversed? I highly doubt it.
Oh and as an aside... if he didn't actually do anything to the young lady and as I have read... whatever went on between them was consentual, I wonder why this joke of a sentence was required to save the victim "the grief of having to testify"?
But really.. it boils all the way down to this: Criminals.. convicted criminals aren't allowed to enter Canada. Since they aren't allowed to enter the States either, I am really at a loss as to why anyone with any sort of education, then a degree in law on top of that forgot (or ignored) this fact?
It's complete and utter stupidity.
